Common True Katydid (Pterophylla camellifolia)
The brown patch between the shoulder blades indicates that this is a male- only the males have that brown area.

superb
Are these the SUPER loud guys that muffle the sound of my Chuck-Will's Widows Daniel? If so WOW! I hope they have a short life cycle.
Congratulations on your beautiful winning photograph of the American Rubyspot in "Alabama Living" Daniel! I was so thrilled to see your and Debi's names and photos!
Hi Eve- the common Katydid is loud- they are the ones that make the sound that sounds like "Katydidit" (http://www.landscape-america.com/sounds/katydid_chirp.wav). But it is another type of Katydid that is drowning out the lovely Chuck Will's Widow call. I'll look for a sample of the Conenose Katydid's call- it is probably that one. Thanks, as always, for your kind comments!
Thanks Aristide!
